The most important part about understanding the color of a diamond, is that in general, the less color a diamond has, the more valuable it will be.

The diamond is found in nature with a large selection of colors. The colors may range from completely colorless (the most valuable), to slightly yellow or brown.

The coloring scale used for measuring the color of a diamond is an alphabetical scale, with a range of D through Z. ‘D’ is almost a completely colorless diamond, therefore being the rarest and most valuable, and ‘Z’ having the most color within the normal range, with the least value attached to it. The way the color is determine is by looking at it under controlled lighting and comparing them to the Gemological Institue of America’s color scale which is based on a set of diamonds of known color.
